Mammoth CEO Arty Straehla: Puerto Rico must clear hurricane debts so it can move toward economic recovery

When natural disasters strike, government relies heavily on the private sector to pick up the pieces and put everything back together. In turn, these companies know that the government has their back, providing compensation for their work, mobilizing heavy equipment, deploying relief teams and rebuilding infrastructure, all of which come with a hefty price tag.

That is how things are supposed to work, and usually do. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Mammoth Energy Services, based in Oklahoma City, has responded to 18 separate disasters in recent years and been compensated fully in 17 of those instances. Our work has been praised and stood the test of time. In January, I traveled to Clay, Kentucky, to meet with Sen. Rand Paul, who was recognizing the utility crews that responded to the tornadoes that ripped through the region late last year.
